10 Benefits of The Holy Spirit

We have the Holy Spirit living inside us! Romans 8:11 says “But if the Sprit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you.” He has quickeneth this mortal body by His Spirit. We are alive in Him and walk in the Spirit of Christ who was raised from the dead.

When Jesus ascended to Heaven He sent His Holy Spirit for us. As you will see as you read what the Holy Spirit does and as we trust Him we will see signs and wonders.

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity with God the Father, and His Son Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is our helper who fills us, teaches us, helps us in our weakness and so much more.

If we live by the Holy Spirit, we will see the benefits manifest in our lives.  Take these scriptures to heart and memorize them.  They will take root in your heart, and you will be amazed at the help of the Holy Spirit.

  1. Guidance

The Holy Spirit leads us in truth and decision-making. “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth…” (John 16:13).

The Holy Spirit works in the lives of believers. He provides insight that can’t be expected of those without His influence. He speaks to us and guides us in his ways and not our own. He does not guide us into truth but He will be our guide into the fullness of His truth. To guide, means that He will show us the way and direct us. We are spiritually blind and searching, feeling after the truth but not able to see it without the help of the Holy Spirit.

2. Comfort

In times of trouble or sorrow, the Holy Spirit is a source of comfort and reassurance. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things…” (John 14:26).

The Holy Spirit will be there for us no matter what the circumstance. No matter what you are facing now, be reassured that the Holy Spirit within you, will not let you face it alone. He will strengthen and comfort you as you lean on Him and allow Him to help you with whatever it is.

3. Strength and Help:

The Holy Spirit gives us strength in our weaknesses and intercedes for us. “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us…” (Romans 8:26).

That is unimaginable to think that the Holy Spirit knows what to pray for us before the throne of God. He intercedes for us with groanings (to utter a deep moan or pain indicative of grief) that cannot be expressed in words. I know that many times when I have knelt down to pray I am unable to find the words to pray. The Holy Spirit has already moved in and knows the deepest desire of my heart and is interceding for me. How awesome is that!

4. Wisdom:

Through the Holy Spirit, we receive wisdom that is not of this world, guiding us in Godly living. “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” (John 14:26).

It is one thing to have the Holy Spirit inside you and another to call on His wisdom in every situation. When the Holy Spirit leads you in wisdom there will be no impossible situation, no problem or crisis that He can’t give you wisdom on and help you navigate your way through it.

5. Conviction of Sin:

The Holy Spirit works to convict us of sin, leading us to repentance and a closer relationship with God. “And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:” (John 16:8).

The Holy Spirit will show us where we are wrong or sinning. He so freely forgives because of Jesus’ death on the cross. He throws our sins into the sea of forgetfulness. The Holy Spirit will help us and give us wisdom to overcome. We have an advocate with the Father, who forgives unconditionally.

6. Spiritual Gifts:

The Holy Spirit bestows spiritual gifts upon believers, equipping them for service and edification of the church. “But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.” (1 Corinthians 12:7-10).

What did we do to deserve such love in that He gives us His gifts? He gives to followers of Christ for the benefit of His people. The Spiritual gifts mentioned are: wisdom, word of knowledge, faith, healing, working of miracles, prophecy, discerning of spirits, speaking in tongues, and interpretation of tongues. These are all to edify and build up the body of Christ.

7. Fruit of the Spirit:

The presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives produces fruit that reflects the character of Christ. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,” (Galatians 5:22).

When we give our life to Jesus as our Saviour, we can’t help but start to demonstrate the Fruits of the Spirit. The old passes away and behold all things become new (2 Cor. 5:17). A new life has begun, we don’t keep the old ways, but seek after and let the fruits of the Spirit become a way of life so that others can see Jesus in us. We are to lead by example.

8. Assurance of Salvation:

The Holy Spirit assures us of our relationship with God and our salvation. “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:” (Romans 8:16).

The confidence we have that we belong to God, not because of our goodness or effort but because of His love for us, comes directly from God’s Spirit with us. When we give our hearts to Jesus, we become His son or daughter. He loves us unconditionally and will help us every second of the day. We are His and no one can take that away from us!

9. Empowerment for Witnessing:

The Holy Spirit empowers believers to share the Gospel with boldness. “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me…” (Acts 1:8).

We are commissioned to share the Gospel with others. In Matthew 18:19-20 it says we are to make disciples, baptize, and teach people about Him. The Holy Spirit empowers us and helps us as we share the Gospel. If we love God we will keep His commands, and if we love others: friends, neighbours, co-workers, we will want them to find salvation. This can only be done through the Power of the Holy Spirit.

10. Sanctification:

The Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in our sanctification, making us more like Christ each day. “And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:11).

Sanctification is the process of becoming more like Jesus. Daily as we read His Word, it helps us to be more like Him and provides us with guidance we couldn’t get on our own. To be filled with the Holy Spirit helps us in our process to be more like Jesus. It is a continuous process as the Holy Spirit is so insightful, so good at molding and correcting us. 1 Peter 1:2 says, “who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, to be obedient to Jesus Christ and sprinkled with his blood: Grace and peace be yours in abundance.”
